What is the process do I follow to enrol my child?

Once you have completed the enrolment process, you will be invited to an enrolment interview. These will happen after all documents are received.

Kindergarten enrolment interview

An opportunity to get to know you and your child.

The Kindergarten Enrolment interview provides us with an opportunity to get to know you and your child a little better and discuss how we can make transition to our school a smooth one. It also is a great opportunity to discuss any questions you have about starting school. Children are not required to attend these interviews, but we are happy to meet them if they do.

Interviews will occur on specific days during Term 3 and Term 4, 2025 with a member of our staff at ANPS.

How to book your child's interview:

• Once you have completed your child's enrolment, you will receive a phone call from the ANPS office to make an appointment with our staff.

• In-Person interviews: We ask that you arrive 10 minutes before your selected interview time. At your interview time, you will meet for 20 minutes to discuss your child's transition to Kindergarten.

First steps

A series of five sessions for children starting in 2026.

Parents do not attend these sessions; however, you are welcome to attend a short information session each week and have a drink/connect with our other families of students attending the transition sessions and staff from ANPS whilst you wait in the community hub.

Your child will only be able to attend the Kindergarten Orientation days once they've been enrolled at our school

Building buddies

A buddy from Year 5 & 6 for the new kindergarten

During our Orientation Sessions, your child will be supported by a variety of our 2026 Stage 3 buddies.

At ANPS, students are not allocated a specific buddy. Instead, they are supported by a range of different buddies, usually from the same class. This approach promotes social and support networks and promotes a sense of community and belonging in our school.

Buddies look after the Kindergarten students for the first few weeks of school. Year Five and Six buddies come to the Kindergarten classrooms each lunch and recess and look after our new students in the playground. They help teach our Kindergarten students the school rules and values (PEACE), assist them with eating times and encourage them to play with their new friends.

What do I need to know?

Please join us for a Parent Information Session about starting Kindergarten at Albury North Public School in 2026. Children will be attending their first steps orientation session whilst this session is happening.

Date: Friday 21st November 2025 (Final session)

Time: 9:45-11:30am

Location: Albury North Community Hub (Ask as the offiice for directions if unsure)

Please note - each week there will be a short parent/carer information session focussing on different themes which you're welcome to attend (10-10:30am each Friday) On the final Friday of the First Steps orientation from Pre-school to Kindergarten session is a longer session to meet some of our staff and support for your child in entering this exciting new season.

What does my child need for school?

In 2026, parents are invited to make their child's voluntary contribution payment. In 2025, this was $20. It is a voluntary contribution, which is not compulsory.

• This contribution covers all your child's learning equipment, including books, folders, pencils, crayons, scissors, glue, headphones and whiteboard markers. It also includes a 1:1 device and decodable readers online as well as a library bag gifted by the P&C.

• Parents do not need to supply anything else for their child's learning.

Our first day of Kindergarten is anticipated to be Monday 2nd February, 2027 at 8.45am.

Anticipated First day schedule

• 8.40am - 9:07am
  Arrive at school. There will be ‘First Day’ photo props near the Kindergarten rooms and under the cola to use. Head into the Kindergarten classroom.

• 9:10am
  Bell will sound. Kindergarten Parents to say goodbye to their child.
• 9:10am
  Parents leave classroom
• 3:05pm
  School finishes - please wait outside by the silver seats on not outside the classroom on the verandah

Travel home options

• Outside of the classroom
  Wait at the silver seats and not on the verandah.

A teacher will be outside if you have any questions or students need help getting their bag organised.

• Bus
  Kindergarten students will be taken up to the bus lines (on Fallon St) and shown where to wait. We have a teacher on bus duty to help them get onto the right bus. Please make sure you know where to meet your child and have discussed getting off.

• Walking home with a sibling

  Kindergarten students can meet their older sibling/s outside of their classroom or under the cola to walk home together.

• OOSH

  A teacher will show students where to walk to the OOSH buildings near to Fallon Street exit.

• Playground supervision 8:40 - 9:10 am
• Morning session 9:10 - 11:10 am
• Recess (eating) 11:10 – 11:20 am
• Recess (play) 11:20 - 11:40 am
• Middle session 11:40 am – 1:10 pm
• Lunch (eating) 1:10 - 1:20 pm
• Lunch (play) 1:20 - 1:50 pm
• Afternoon session 1:50 – 3:05pm.

Playground supervision

Before school, teacher supervision starts at 8:40 am each morning. Parents must not drop children off before 8:40 am.

After school, teacher supervision ends once all buses have departed.

Canteen

School canteen

Our School Canteen is open for online lunch orders via School24 on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday only. Orders close at 9:00am each day.

Cash orders can be made from 8:40am on the day also.

If you are able to volunteer your time in our canteen, please let Cheryl know in the canteen.

Uniform

Looking smart in ANPS school uniform

Many thanks to our P&C volunteers who have provided a ANPS t shirt for each student who starts at our school. Additional uniform items can be purchased at canteen which is open Wednesday, Thursday and Friday mornings at 8:40am. When students wear a school uniform, they feel included in our school community. Students, teachers, parents and carers, as well as members of our local community helped develop our school uniform to make sure it:

• meets the requirements of occupational health and safety, anti-discrimination and equal opportunity legislation.
• includes items that are affordable, comfortable and are made from easy-care and easy-wear fabrics.
• is appropriate for the full range of school activities.
• is suitable for all body shapes.

Best start assessment

The Best start assessment identifies student’s literacy and numeracy skills on entry to Kindergarten. It has been conducted in all NSW public schools since 2010. The assessment is conducted in line with existing school practices and builds upon teaching and learning programs that support students in the transition to school.

All 2027 Best Start assessments will be conducted by class teachers during school hours in Term 1, 2027.
